ConvaTec expands insulin manufacturing partnership with Medtronic

Medical technology company ConvaTec has expanded its insulin pump manufacturing partnership with Irish medical device company Medtronic to meet growing demand.

The FTSE 100 company’s subsidiary, Unomedical, has strengthened its capabilities to produce a range of infusion sets and insulin pump therapy solutions offered by Medtronic’s Diabetes Group.

This new expanded partnership builds on their existing collaboration as the companies have working together on diabetes and insulin pump therapy since 1997.

The company claims there is increasing demand for insulin pump therapy from people with diabetes, as about 700,000 people worldwide, mostly with type one diabetes, use the therapy, according to Daedal Research in March 2016.

Unomedical develops and supplies a range of disposable infusion sets, a component of an insulin pump, to Medtronic including MiniMed QuickSet, MiniMed Silhouette, MiniMed Sure-T and MiniMed Mio.
