Cranswick, the UK supplier of fresh meats, charcuterie and sandwiches, has bought British cooked chicken and turkey supplier Benson Park for an undisclosed sum.

The FTSE 250-listed company said the "strategic acquisition" moves it into a new protein sector and expands its product range and customer base.

Benson Park, based in Hull in East Yorkshire, supplies ingredients to the food-to-go sector of the retail multi-channel, convenience and food-service markets.

The business employs 90 staff and generated revenues of £41.1 in the year to 31 August.

"A key component of the group's long term growth strategy is to develop new product channels in its core UK market both in pork and other proteins," said Cranswick's chief executive Adam Couch.

"Today's announcement represents important progress in that objective."

Cranswick has used existing debt facilities to fund the deal, which is expected to enhance earnings this financial year.
