FTSE 250 outsourcer Mitie said on Tuesday that Derek Mapp will take over as chairman from Roger Matthews at the annual general meeting on 26 July, when Matthews will step down after 11 years of service.

Mitie said Mapp has a wealth of experience, having sat on boards for over 20 years and been in non-executive chairman roles for the past nine years. He is currently non-executive chairman of Informa and Huntsworth, following an extensive career in ownership, managerial, operational and commercial roles in service industries.

Chief executive officer Phil Bentley said: "Roger has been very supportive of me during my first few months at Mitie and I wish him well for the future. In Derek, we have a proven chairman with extensive operational experience to help transform Mitie as we take the journey 'Beyond FM…to the Connected Workspace'. I am looking forward to working closely with him in the coming years."

Last week, Mitie - which has issued three profit warnings in a year - announced a writedown of as much as £50m as it said it might need to restate its accounts to March 2016 following a review of its accounts.

At 0805 BST, the shares were up 0.4% to 238.90p.
