Elliott Investment Management and Vista Equity Partners are reportedly nearing a deal to buy US software maker Citrix Systems for around $13bn.

Bloomberg cited people familiar with the matter as saying that the investment firms are close to a deal to buy Citrix for about $104 a share. The transaction could be announced as soon as Monday.

Sources told Bloomberg that no final decision has been made and the timing and price of a deal could still change.

Citrix previously tried to sell itself in 2017 but discussions with potential buyers - which included Bain Capital and Thoma Bravo - were said to have stalled over the valuation.

Bloomberg News first reported in December that Elliott and Vista were considering a joint bid for Citrix.

Citrix makes software that enables employees to log in remotely to company IT systems.
