Endeavour Mining announced the appointment of Sonia Scarselli as its executive vice-president of exploration on Tuesday, effective from December.

The FTSE 100 company said Scarselli was joining from BHP, where she most recently held the role of vice-president of exploration since September 2023, and vice-president of the BHP Xplor programme since June 2022.

Her career history started at ExxonMobil UK before joining BHP in 2012, where she held several leadership roles, including vice-president of exploration and appraisals, head of Algeria, and exploration manager for Trinidad and Tobago.

Scarselli would replace Jono Lawrence, who was set to leave Endeavour at the end of the year following a transition period.

She would lead Endeavour’s exploration programme, targeting the discovery of 12 million to 17 million ounces of measured and indicated resources by 2025.

To date, the company has already identified 10 million ounces of such resources since 2021, at a discovery cost of less than $25 per ounce.

Scarselli holds a master’s degree in geological science from Università degli studi di Perugia, a PhD in geology from ETH Zurich, and an MBA from the London Business School.

She also serves as an advisor to Deep Energy Capital, CEOs Against Cancer Chapter, and the AAPG Advisory Council.

With her appointment, Endeavour said its executive committee would consist of 10 members, with 30% female representation.
