Mediterranean-focussed oil and gas producer Energean Oil and Gas has commenced its 2019 drilling programme in Israel, it announced on Monday, which would consist of three development wells and Karish North.

The FTSE 250 company said that following the four-well campaign, it had a further six drilling options available in its contract with Stena Drilling.

It said it would batch drill the top-hole sections of the wells, which would allow “significant” operational efficiencies and cost savings.

“The drilling campaign is being undertaken using the Stena DrillMAX drillship,” the Energean board said in its statement.

“The Stena DrillMAX is a sixth-generation drillship capable of drilling in water depths of up to 10,000 feet.”
