The Serious Fraud Office has charged three former Tesco executives with fraud as part of its investigation into a scandal that resulted in a £263m black hole in the retailer’s accounts.

The SFO said it has charged Carl Rogberg, Christopher Bush and John Scouler with one count of fraud by abuse of position and one count of false accounting.

The alleged activity occurred between February and September 2014.

Rogberg was finance director for Tesco’s UK stores, while Bush was managing director and Scouler was Tesco’s food commercial director.

All three have been requisitioned to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 22 September.

The SFO said the investigation into Tesco remains ongoing.
