Rafael MacGregor intends to stand down as non-executive director at Fresnillo with immediate effect.

In a statement to the London Stock Exchange on Friday, the mining company said MacGregor was departing due to the “time commitment required” in his role as a director at Mexican bank Banamex.

In addition, he will not stand for re-election at the 2016 annual general meeting of the company, which will be held 3 May.

Fresnillo chairman Alberto Baillères said: "I should like to take this opportunity to thank Rafael MacGregor for his significant contribution to the Board and to the Committee on which he has served in recent years. His wisdom and support has been invaluable."

At 1623 BST, Fresnillo shares were up 0.59% or 5.50p to 933p.
