The Department of Transport has extended Go-Ahead’s contract for the Southeastern franchise by 24 weeks until December 2018.

The franchise was due to end in June 2018 but it contained a clause that can be invoked by the DfT to extend the agreement on existing terms.

Southeastern serves south east London and Kent and operates one of the UK's busiest networks, with 640,000 passenger journeys made each week day.

At 1250 GMT, Go-Ahead shares were up 0.4% to 2,118.50p
