The vegan sausage roll became the latest victim of the supply chain crunch on Wednesday, as Greggs warned the popular snack was being affected by “temporary interruptions”.

Reuters reported that the FTSE 250 bakery chain was having trouble with supplies of a number of its products, including the animal product-free, Quorn-filled pastry.

The news outlet said the new Greggs shop at Canary Wharf was out of vegan sausage rolls on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a number of other outlets across the capital also running bare.

“Some shops may not have them or may not have them throughout the day,” Reuters quoted a Greggs spokesperson as saying.

“It varies.”

The disruption came after chief executive officer Roger Whiteside warned in October that the company was not an exception to the much-reported supply chain issues affecting British industry, with food ingredients and labour availability being particular pain points.

At 1215 GMT, shares in Greggs were up 0.13% at 3,040p.
