International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) has been approached about potentially taking over a number of rival airlines, chief executive Willie Walsh has revealed.

Speaking at the Airport Operators Association's annual conference, Walsh said some foreign governments have approached the British Airways owner with deal proposals.

He added that while IAG was keen to add to its recent acquisition of Irish carrier Aer Lingus, if the right opportunity presented itself, the company was "not actively pursuing anything".

Most of the deals proposed were of European airlines, Walsh said, according to reports first published by the Wall Street Journal.
