Intertek has hired Reckitt Benckiser's Jonathan Timmis as its new finance chief to replace Ross McCluskey, who is moving to a new operating job at the product-checking company.

Timmis, chief financial officer for health at Reckitt, will join Intertek as group CFO on or just before 1 April. McCluskey will start his hands-on job on the same date.

Intertek said McCluskey was making the move with the board's full support after more than two years as CFO and four years at the FTSE 100 company. Timmis started his career at big four accountancy firm PwC. He has had various finance jobs at Reckitt and before that worked at SAB Miller.

Andre Lacroix, Intertek's chief executive, said: "Ross has been an outstanding finance leader and during his time as CFO we have significantly strengthened our organisational capability as well as our cost, cash, control and performance management processes throughout our global finance function. I am convinced that his decision to move into a line role will be very rewarding."

Intertek reported a 33% drop in first-half profit in July after the Covid-19 crisis hit revenue. The company's shares fell 1% to £63.76 at 08:42 BST on Monday.
