Irish Continental Group has taken delivery of the high-speed vessel "Westpac Express," which has subsequently chartered it to a US-government organisation, Military Sealift Command.

The vessel has a gross tonnage of 8403 tonnes, passenger capacity of 900 and a car-carrying limit of 182 units.

Irish Continental, whose shares were up more than 3%, received the vessel on 1 June. It had been onward delivered to Sealift LLC, which chartered it to Military Sealift Command.

The charter was subject to usual US government procurement regulations and was fixed for a firm four-month period to 30 September, with the charterer having an option to extend the charter period to a maximum of 59 months in total.
