Engineering company The Weir Group announced on Thursday that following discussions with chief operating officer Dean Jenkins, it has been agreed that he will step down from the board on 30 September.

The FTSE 250 firm said this follows Jenkins expressing his desire to spend more time with his family and be based in Australia.

Jenkins has agreed with the board that for a transitional period he will continue to lead the group’s innovation, technology and safety strategies as he hands over his other responsibilities as COO to other executives.

His employment with the group will cease on 31 December.

“I would like to thank Dean for his hard work and commitment to The Weir Group over the last six years,” said chairman Charles Berry.

“In his time with the group, Dean has served with distinction as divisional managing director of the Minerals and former Power and Industrial divisions and, latterly, as chief operating officer.”

Weir’s board confirmed that while he continues in his role as chief operating officer, he will remain a director of the group.
