John Menzies chief executive Jeremy Stafford has resigned from the logistics company for personal reasons.

Stafford joined the company in October 2014, nearly a year after he left Serco in the wake of allegations the company overcharged taxpayers to electronically tag offenders.

He was the first group chief executive for seven years, after Patrick Macdonald left in 2007 and the company decided to split the job between its two divisions.

Following Wednesday’s announcement, it appears the board is looking at two company chiefs again, appointing Forsyth Black as Managing Director of Menzies Aviation, and Mark Cassie as Interim Managing Director of Menzies Distribution with immediate effect.

The board said it will “continue to review its strategic and organisational options to enhance shareholder value”.

Black, who was Managing Director of the company’s distribution arm, has been with the group for over 16 years, predominantly in senior aviation roles.

Cassie joined the group in 1984 fulfilling a number of leadership roles and for the last four years has been Operations Director.
