Engineering and consulting business John Wood Group named Ken Gilmartin as its new chief executive officer on Tuesday, effective from 1 July.

Wood Group said Gilmartin will succeed current CEO Robin Watson, who announced his intention to retire in April but will remain with the company until 30 September in an advisory role in order to support a smooth transition.

Chairman Roy Franklin said: "Ken has brought a wealth of industry experience and excellent strategic and leadership skills to Wood, and I am delighted that he will be our new chief executive officer. He has impressed the board with the impact he has made over the last nine months, where he has brought clarity, structure, and focus, and a strong client-centric mindset to the role, and by his drive to lead the development of Wood's future strategy.

As of 0815 BST, Wood Group shares were up 0.39% at 180.60p.
