KKR & Co's latest private-equity fund has amassed a war-chest of $13.9bn for opportunistic investments in private equity-related deals primarily in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The sum -- in the KKR Americas XII Fund -- is apparently a record for a buyout pool focused on North America.

The fund was focused on opportunistic investments in private equity-related transactions primarily in the US, Canada and Mexico.

"In addition to traditional management buyouts and build-ups, the business seeks to find opportunities to provide growth capital, as well as minority investments, and public toehold investments where KKR can partner with public companies," said KKR & Co.

It would leverage the KKR & Co's industry expertise and operational capabilities to add value beyond just providing capital.

While KKR's new pool was the largest centred on North America, rivals Apollo and Blackstone Group LP had raised bigger funds that invested in buyouts on a global basis.
