Marks & Spencer will collaborate with model and style icon Alexa Chung on a 31-piece womenswear collection.

The project is the first of the ‘M&S &’ series, which will see the company team up with some of today’s most exciting designers, brands and fashion icons.

M&S and Alexa will re-work some of the retailer’s archive pieces, bringing them up to date with modern fabrications and an updated colour palette, but keeping heritage firmly at their heart.

Chung, who created a veritable fashion furore last year when she was pictured in a £199, 1970s-style brown suede skirt by the retailer, said: “I have always had an affection for Marks & Spencer. I am thrilled to be part of this special and unique project. There was something very touching about looking back through the British fashion and social history for which M&S is synonymous.”

Steve Rowe, executive director of General Merchandise at Marks & Spencer, said: “It was a hugely insightful experience allowing Alexa full access to our company archive.

“Marks & Spencer’s history is vast and quality design has always been paramount; therefore using our expertise and classic designs and Alexa’s unique eye and approach to style, our collaboration was born.”
