FTSE 250 outsourcer Mitie said on Monday that chief executive officer Ruby McGregor-Smith will down on 12 December and be succeeded by Phil Bentley.

The company said McGregor-Smith, who has been CEO since April 2007, will work closely with Bentley to ensure an effective transition, including with clients, employees, investors and other stakeholders.

Mitie said Bentley brings a wide range of executive and leadership experience from across industry, including most recently at Cable and Wireless Communications, where he served as group CEO until its acquisition by Liberty Global.

Prior to that, he ran British Gas for seven years and held a number of senior management and finance roles at Centrica and Diageo.

Chairman Roger Matthews said: “I am delighted that Phil Bentley is joining Mitie. He has proven CEO experience with an excellent track record of significantly enhancing shareholder value in services businesses. I welcome him to the group and I am looking forward to working with him."
