Paper and packaging company Mondi said it was unaffected by unannounced inspections by the European Commission at several companies in the kraft paper and industrial bags sector last week.

On 16 March, the European Commission confirmed that it had carried out unannounced inspections the day before.

The EC said it had concerns the companies involved may have violated Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which prohibits anti-competitive practices such as price fixing and customer allocation.

“Mondi is committed to complying with all applicable competition laws and is not aware of any contravention of the relevant legislation,” the company said on Monday.

At 0947 GMT, Mondi shares were 0.5% higher at 1,319p.
