More passengers on more seats in July for Wizz Air

Central and Eastern Europe-focused low cost airline Wizz Air announced passenger statistics for July on Wednesday, with capacity rising 16.2% over July 2015 to 2,465,720 seats.

On a rolling 12 month basis, capacity was up 18.4% to 23,930,500 seats.

The FTSE 250 firm flew 2,285,601 passengers during July, up 16.2% on the same time last year, while the rolling 12 month passenger figure was 21,174,354, a 20% increase.

Wizz Air’s load factor was unchanged for the month at 92.7%, while it rose 1.2 percentage points for the year at 88.5%.

During the month, the airline also launched nine new routes to Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Lithuania, Macedonia and Poland, and opened its sixth Romanian base in Iasi with one A320 aircraft.

The airline’s fleet increased to 71 aircraft with the delivery of a brand new A321ceo aircraft

Wizz also received its Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration from the International Air Transport Association, and signed a $2.5bn contract with Pratt & Whitney to supply next generation engines for its future A321 neo aircraft.
