Musk considering 'slight fee' for commercial Twitter users

Elon Musk is considering introducing a "slight fee" for commercial and government Twitter users.

Musk - who struck a deal last month to buy the social media platform for $44bn - said in a tweet: "Twitter will always be free for casual users, but maybe a slight cost for commercial/government users."

Since agreeing to buy Twitter, Musk has said he wanted to make the platform less "niche".

Earlier this week, it emerged that Musk is looking to change the financing terms of his acquisition so that he can use less of his own money. According to reports, the Tesla owner is in talks with investment firms and high net worth individuals to contribute more financing for the buyout.

Reuters said Musk was understood to be seeking large Twitter shareholders to roll their existing stake into the new venture, instead of cashing out. Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is reportedly one of those shareholders considering the proposal.

If Musk is successful, he will be able to reduce the $21 billion in cash he has already committed to the deal, Reuters said.
