National Grid 'in early stage discussions about potential sale of gas operations'

Energy giant National Grid is gearing up for the sale of its remaining gas operations, sources have claimed.

The group has reportedly not yet lined up any advisers, but is holding early-stage talks, 11 years after it sold half its gas distribution network.

According to City sources spoken to by the Sunday Times, the firm is considering whether to dispose of the remainder of the network in one chunk or in smaller pieces.

National Grid could generate £10bn from the sale.

The company chose not to comment on the matter.
