NatWest customers were unable to use the online banking app on Tuesday due to an IT glitch, with thousands unable to access balance and payment services.

Customers trying to use the app have been shown a "service disruption" error messages, with the bank advising people to attempt telephone banking services or visiting a high street branch.

"Some of our customers are experiencing issues with our mobile app and Online Banking service," NatWest's pop-up message said. "We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and we're woking hard getting everything back up and running for you."

According to outage-reporting website Downdetector, incidents were reported from around 0530 BST.

“If you are looking to make a payment with us today, please consider sending money another way. You can still use your debit or credit card to make payments and get cash from ATM’s, branches and the Post Office," the bank said.
