Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group customers were prevented from accessing money in their accounts due to a technical glitch ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

Natwest, Lloyds and Halifax account holders were unable to login to mobile banking apps or online banking portals on Friday.

Some customers' wages had not arrived, while other found transfers between accounts had failed to appear.

Lloyds tweeted that the bank was “aware of intermittent issues with internet banking" and said it was working to resolve the problems.

NatWest confirmed: “We are aware some customers are currently experiencing issues with completing transfers on accounts via our Telephony Service, Mobile App and Online Banking.

“We are working hard to fix this, sorry and thank you for your patience.”
