Christmas is a time for spending precious moments with the family they say - but it's also a time for spending precious cash as retailers announce what we will be buying this festive period.

Families may wince at the mere mention of the holiday season, but the UK's biggest shops are already licking their lips as many have released their predictions as to waht is going to sell big this year.

Alcohol is one of the main features of the predictions, which have come from such retail giants as Tesco and Amazon.

Tesco believe Kylie Minogue's new album will be a big-seller, alongside popular French vodka Grey Goose, priced at £20 a bottle. Amazon continued the booze trend citing Hennessy XO cognac as a predicted winner.

The online shopping platform has seen a notable increase in its beer, wine and spirits division as it prepares for its "biggest Christmas ever".

The company has planned to create 1,000 permanent jobs in Britain by the end of the year, in addition to the 2,500 previously announced at the beginning of 2016.

Kitchenware retailer Lakeland has put its money on Wilton Shot Tops, a kooky bottle-shaped infuser that allows you to add your favourite drinks to cakes and pastries.

Marks and Spencer have announced that they plan to produce their own brand of caviar for those with rich tastes. The "Calvisius sevruga caviar" will be on the shelves for around £20 a tin.
