Rogers to step down as Babcock CEO

Babcock has announced that group chief executive Peter Rogers will retire from the company at the end of August.

Rogers has been leading the company since August 2003, growing the company from a small cap business to a FTSE 100 giant.

Babcock chairman Mike Turner said he has been an outstanding chief executive.

“Under his leadership, Babcock has grown into one of the UK's leading businesses, whilst maintaining an enviable track record of delivery to customers and shareholders.”

Rogers said it has been a privilege to lead the company.

“This is a unique company staffed by great people and I am very proud of what we achieved together.”

Marine & Technology division chief executive Archie Bethel will take over as group chief executive at the beginning of September.

He will also take up the role of chief operating officer at the beginning of April to ensure a smooth transition.

Bethel joined Babcock in 2004 has overseen the development and growth of the division both in the UK and overseas.

Turner is delighted that Bethel will be taking the up the new role.

“Our thorough succession planning process, which involved close consideration of potential internal and external candidates, confirmed that he is the right person, with the right skills and experience to lead the Group as it continues to develop and achieve its strategy over the coming years."

John Howie, managing director of Naval Marine, will take over as Marine & Technology division chief executive at the beginning of April.
