Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines hit by EASA emergency airworthiness warning
The European Aviation Safety Agency issued an emergency airworthiness directive on Rolls-Royce's Trent 1000 engines on Thursday morning.
The aviation safety regulator ordered airlines to "de-pair" Trent 1000 engines on their aircraft, mainly Boeing 787s, so that no aeroplane would fly with two of the potentially affected Trent engines.
The EASA said some components in the engines were corroding faster than they should, confirming an August admission from the company that between 400 and 500 Trent 1000 engines had seen components deteriorating earlier than expected.
