Japan’s SoftBank is reportedly in talks to buy Graphcore, a struggling British semiconductor start-up once valued at $2.8bn.

Bloomberg cited people familiar with the deals as saying that the two companies have held discussions over several months but entered into more advanced deal talks recently.

It was understood that financial terms haven’t yet been decided and the talks could still unravel.

One source said a final agreement isn’t imminent.

Formed in Bristol in 2016, Graphcore develops designs for large "intelligence processing units." meant to help with AI software processing inside data centres.
