Sureserve has promoted interim chief operating officer and chief financial officer Peter Smith to the role of chief executive.

Smith has been with the business since July 2019 and has "extensive" knowledge of both the business and the markets in which Sureserve operates.

The company said it will begin the recruitment process to identify and appoint a new CFO. Smith will continue to act as CFO in an interim capacity until a replacement has been appointed.

Chairman Nick Winks said: "I welcome Peter's appointment to the role of chief executive officer. He has shown strong engagement with, and respect from, all stakeholders during his time as interim chief operating officer. I look forward to working with him as we take the strategic direction of the group forward."

Broker Shore Capital said: "We see the confirmation of the role as providing clarity to both existing shareholders and the wider investment community after almost eight months during which interim chairman Robert Legget and Mr Winks, appointed as chairman in May, undertook the search for a CEO following the decision by former executive chairman to step down in March."
