Tesco has sold its opticians network to Vision Express owner GrandVision for an undisclosed fee.

The deal, which was completed over the weekend, will see the network of 209 stores across the UK and Ireland brought under the Vision Express brand.

Tesco Opticians generated revenues of approximately £90m in the last calendar year.

Vision Express, which said it intended to retain the valued experience of the Tesco Optician personnel in all stores, said the acquisition took the total number of Vision Express outlets close to 600.

Having last month received provisional clearance by the UK competition authority, Tesco expects to complete its £3.7bn takeover of wholesaler Booker in early 2018.
