In new research carried out by Which? it was revealed that UK shoppers have voted WH Smith to be the worst high street retailer. Lush, Savers and Smyths Toys have been rated as the top high street shops.

The books to paperclips store came bottom of a survey of Which? readers who rated their shopping experience. It was closely followed by Clinton cards and Sports direct.

One customer told Which?: “I find WH Smith very expensive and its stores need updating.” Another said that the shop was "hugely inferior to what it was in the past”.

According to the Guardian the firm has been facing problem for overpricing everyday products and selling high sugary items for bargain prices that boost the country’s obesity issues.

The top scorers in the list generally offer something their online rivals can’t: sensory experiences, help with choosing products or first-class customer service. Also the price is an important factor for rating.

The high street is suffering a rough patch recently as two retailers (Toys R Us and Maplin) have already gone into administration and many more issuing profit warnings, needing rent cuts and cutting staff.
