Wizz Air passenger numbers surge in January

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air said on Wednesday that it carried 2.39m passengers in January, a 318% year-on-year increase.

Wizz Air stated capacity rose 220.3% year-on-year to 3.01m last month and its load factor improved 18.6 percentage points to 79.6%.

The FTSE 250-listed firm highlighted that it continued to grow its network and improve its customer offering throughout January, launching its "Fly the Greenest" campaign aimed at raising awareness of the group's "industry leading position" as the greenest choice of air travel and announcing a new car rental reward scheme with Green Motion through its partnership with Rentalcars.com.

Wizz Air also noted it had received the third-youngest aircraft fleet position worldwide and youngest aircraft fleet position in Europe and that it continued to operates amongst the lowest CO2, with CO2 emissions in grams per passenger/km 24.4% lower compared to the same month in 2020.

As of 0900 GMT, Wizz Air shares were up 0.96% at 4,198.0p.
