Low-cost European airline Wizz Air reported significant growth in its August traffic data on Monday.

The carrier said it transported 6,143,859 passengers during the month, marking a 23.9% increase in passenger numbers compared to August last year.

It also achieved a robust load factor of 94.1%, a 3.6 percentage point increase year-on-year.

The airline said it expanded its network and improved its service offerings during the month, adding that in August alone, it had a completion rate of 99.6%, the highest among European low-cost carriers.

Wizz Air UK also announced a new route from Luton to Sphinx International Airport in Cairo, Egypt during August.

Wizz Air also reached 65 million passengers served through Luton Airport during the month.

It said that, as the largest carrier operating out of the airport with 12 aircraft, it currently operated around 100 flights per day across 58 routes.

Additionally, its cabin crew training organisation in Hungary received approval from the Hungarian Ministry of Construction and Transport to issue cabin crew attestations.

That made Wizz Air the first airline in Hungary with the ability to issue such a document on behalf of the Hungarian Civil Aviation Authority.

Furthermore, the attestation would be valid across all EU countries, indicating an expansion in the training services offered by the airline.

Wizz Air also said its carbon dioxide emissions per passenger kilometre for the 12 months ended 31 August came in at 51.9 grams.

Notably, emissions for the month of August were even lower at 50.5 grams per passenger kilometre, representing a 5.3% reduction compared to the same month last year.

In a broader perspective, Wizz Air's rolling 12-month figures also indicated sustained growth.

The airline saw a 33% increase in capacity, rising to 62,647,040, and an even larger 43.4% increase in passenger numbers, reaching 56,609,872.

Its 12-month load factor was also positive, at 90.4%, up by 6.5 percentage points.

At 0911 BST, shares in Wizz Air Holdings were up 1.77% at 2,239p.
