Wizz Air is set to launch the first budget flights between the UK and Saudi Arabia next year, it emerged on Tuesday..

The FTSE 250 low-cost airline would begin a new service between London Gatwick and Jeddah on 31 March 2025, using its new Airbus A321XLR long-range aircraft.

Wizz Air had 47 A321XLR aircraft on order, with the single-aisle jet offering enhanced fuel efficiency and longer range, with the capability of up to 11 hours of flight.

According to PA, Wizz Air chief executive officer Jozsef Varadi, highlighted the strategic importance of the route, calling it a step forward in connecting distant destinations while providing affordable travel options.

The airline was reportedly aiming to offer highly competitive fares, with prices starting at £134.99 for the seven-hour flight, which would operate overnight on outbound journeys.

IAG brand British Airways was also launching a service from Heathrow to Jeddah in November, PA added.

At 1146 BST, shares in Wizz Air Holdings were up 0.5% at 1,201p.
