Building materials distributor Wolseley has appointed BBA Aviation's Mike Powell as chief financial officer, effective from 1 June.

Powell is currently finance director at BBA Aviation, a position he has held since July 2014, and was previously chief financial officer at AZ Electronic Materials, a Luxembourg-based chemicals company and Nippon Sheet Glass, a Tokyo-based glass manufacturer.

Since December 2016, he has also been a non-executive director of plastics manufacturer Low and Bonar.

He will succeed Dave Keltner, who has been interim chief financial officer since September 2016, and who will retire later in the year following an orderly handover of responsibilities.

Chairman Gareth Davis said Powell’s “international background, financial skills, familiarity with the US and operational experience of running multi-site businesses will be important attributes as we continue to develop the Wolseley business”.

Chief executive John Martin added: "This is an important period in Wolseley's development as we focus ever more intensely on driving profitable growth. I look forward to working with Mike as part of the leadership team to build on our track record of investing in market leading businesses and delivering great shareholder returns.”
