WPP has expanded its digital marketing interests in Turkey with the acquisition of a majority stake in Istanbul-based Directcomm Marketing for an undisclosed sum.

Directcomm, which specialises in digital marketing, customer relationship management, events and social media, has 700 staff and generated roughly $6.5m of revenue in the last calendar year.

Clients of the agency include Türk Telekom, Siemens and Sony Mobile.

"This acquisition continues WPP's strategy of investing in fast growing and important markets and sectors and strengthening its digital capabilities," the FTSE media giant said.

In the Turkish market WPP's companies and associate businesses already generate revenues of around $120m and employ approximately 1,300 people.

Turkey is one of what WPP calls the 'Next 11' group of growth economies where the group's companies together generate revenues of over $1bn and employ over 10,000 people.
