The board of the Conservative Party was meeting on Monday to decided whether or not to confirm Theresa May as leader after her only rival quit the race.

Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative Party's 1922 Committee, which handles internal elections, said there would be no re-run of the vote, but could not give a clear timetable on when May would be confirmed as leader and prime minister.

"We need to get the clear views of the Conservative Party board, they need to be properly consulted," Brady said.

"We're not discussing coronations, we're discussing a proper procedural process. There will be conversations during the course of the afternoon."
