Trump to make state visit to UK in June
Trump is set to make a state visit to the UK in early June that will be hosted by Queen Elizabeth II despite the risks of public protests kicking off again as they did during his last visit.
The visit will take place from Monday 3 June to Wednesday 5 June this year.
A state visit is the highest honour afforded to visiting dignitaries.
“The State Visit is an opportunity to strengthen our already close relationship in areas such as trade, investment, security and defense, and to discuss how we can build on these ties in the years ahead,” May said in a statement. “We must continue to stand together to uphold our shared values and way of life.”
During his trip, Trump and May will hold talks in London and take part in an event marking the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.
A banquet at Buckingham Palace is also likely to be celebrated in his honour, together with a ride in a gilt carriage escorted by mounted soldiers
Trump’s visit to the UK last July was downgraded from a state visit but it still sparked protests, including a helium-filled caricature of the president known as Trump Baby that became viral
