FTSE 100 movers: Coca-Cola HBC still bubbling while miners head deeper
Updated : 15:37
The FTSE 100 was just in the green in Friday afternoon trading, as investors shrugged off disappointing UK construction data and some uninspiring numbers out of China.
Coca-Cola HBC continued to fizz higher a day after it posted an 11% jump in first-half operating profit and sounded an upbeat note on the full-year outlook.
The company said on Thursday that currencies were continuing to impact adversely, leading to a 3.6% decline in net sales revenue to €1.193bn.
It posted a “robust increase” in FX-neutral revenue per case of 2.4% to €4.02, mainly due to better pricing trends across all segments compared to the prior-year period and a 110 basis point improvement in package mix.
Volumes increased marginally on a strong prior-year period - taking into account the one less selling day in Q1, HBC said volume grew by 0.7%.
The established markets performed poorly, however, with volumes declining 2.8%, which HBC said was partly impacted by unseasonably cool weather.
Going the other way, mining stocks were under the cosh on lacklustre China industrial data and a drop in metal prices.
Fresh data out on Friday showed China’s industrial output grew 6% year-on-year in July, falling just short of consensus expectations for a 6.1% rise.
Retail sales in the People’s Republic grew 10.2% in the month, again coming in short of forecasts for a 10.5% rise.
The country’s fixed asset investment growth scaled back to 8.1% year-on-year for the year so far, shy of the market’s 8.8% pick.
Fresnillo, Rio Tinto and Randgold Resources were all in the red.
