London’s FTSE 100 was down 0.2% at 7,760.23 in afternoon trade on Tuesday.

Sales, marketing and support services group DCC fell after it said that chief executive Donal Murphy will step back from his day-to-day responsibilities for the next few weeks to address a medical condition.

Housebuilders Berkeley and Persimmon were on the back after data from Halifax showed that house prices fell in April after three consecutive months of growth.

On a month-on-month basis, prices were down 0.3% to £286,896 following a 0.8% increase in March. On an annual basis, prices were up just 0.1% in April, down from 1.6% growth a month earlier.

On the upside, IAG was boosted by broker notes, as Peel Hunt upgraded shares of the BA and Iberia owner to 'buy', while Liberum reiterated its ‘buy’ rating and upped the price target to 350p from 240p.

JD Sports rose after agreeing to buy French sportswear retailer Courir in a €520m deal.

Educational publisher Pearson was also higher as it hailed the opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence in a strategy update.
