Electrical retailer Dixons Carphone was boosted after a strong first half in the UK helped group like-for-like revenues rise 5%. The company also remained proactive about Dutch and German trading conditions and said it was launching reviews and restructuring to maximise sales.

Utility giant National Grid rose after announcing a partnership with a specialist in underwater projects to build a 300 mile cable. The project will bring Canadian hydropower and Maine wind power to Greater Boston to help meet increased energy needs.

Aberdeen Asset Management continued to rise in the wake of an acquisition deal with Scottish Widows, which adds £136bn of assets to the company’s management base and is expected to create annualised revenues of around £234m.

Meanwhile, BG Group’s share prices dropped, following the decision to sell an Australian pipeline to APA Group for $5bn. The sale to Australia’s gas infrastructure group is an effort for the group to actively manage its global asset portfolio.

Oil and gas services company Petrofac saw shares drop after it warned on Monday that its profits for 2015 will fall by 25%. The fall is a result of slowing demand in China and plentiful US output cutting the price of oil.

Shares in the banking sector were also weaker, including Barclays and HSBC.
