London’s FTSE 100 was up 1.5% at 7,369.05 in afternoon trade on Friday.

Miners Anglo American, Antofagasta, Glencore and Rio Tinto all rallied after data out of China showed that inflation slowed down in August.

Figures released earlier by the National Bureau of Statistics showed consumer price inflation declined to 2.5% on the year from 2.7% in July, coming in below consensus expectations of 2.8%. This was driven by a moderation in food price inflation, which dropped to 6.1% from 6.3%.

British Gas owner Centrica was also on the rise, possibly still amid relief that any windfall tax on energy companies has been ruled out.
