FTSE 100 movers: Miners rally, housebuilders under the cosh
Updated : 15:51
London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.4% at 7,447.31 in afternoon trade on Thursday.
Heavily-weighted miners Glencore, Anglo American and Antofagasta all rose.
On the downside, Barratt was under the cosh after an update in which it forecast a more than 20% drop in full-year home completions.
Danni Hewson head of financial analysis at AJ Bell, said: "Housebuilder Barratt Developments may be sticking with its guidance for now but there was little else but gloom in its latest update. Completions are down, people are buying fewer of its homes and the number of first-time buyers has dropped off alarmingly."
Taylor Wimpey, Berkeley and Persimmon lost ground. The sector was also hit by the latest survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), which showed that new house buyer inquiries fell to an eight-month low in June amid rising mortgage rates.
British American Tobacco was in the red as it traded without entitlement to the dividend.
