FTSE 100 movers: Sky in the picture on Fox offer; Anglo American dives

The FTSE 100 index rose 0.43% to 6,961.56 in late afternoon trade at the end of the week.

Sky shares jumped as the company agreed to a take over by US media giant 21st Century Fox at a price of 1075p per share in cash, for a 36% premium on the shares' closing price as of 8 December.

Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca was in the green after the US Food and Drug Administration accepted the first biologics licence for it’s durvalumab in bladder cancer and given the drug priority review status.

The company has also teamed up with American counterpart Eli Lilly to co-develop a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Shire rose on the back of AstraZeneca’s gains.

Dutch tourism company TUI gave back its gains from the previous session when it impressed with its full year results statement, with the Anglo-German travel and tourism group laying out its earnings growth outlook towel for another two years.

Mining company Anglo American was in the red as metal prices fell, with copper down 1.71%, Nickel at $11,380 per tonne from $11,400/t and iron ore down $76.4/t from $77/t.
