Travel and leisure shares were in favour as the FTSE 100 index traded slightly lower, down 0.38% to 6,319 at 1435 BST.

The sector took on a sunny disposition after Berenberg said the sell off after terror attacks in Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey, Paris and Brussels had been overdone and Britons would not be dissuaded from taking an overseas break this summer.

Tour operator TUI, owner of FirstChoice and Thomson, low-cost carrier easyJet, cruise ship owner Carnival and Intercontinental Hotels all rose on the news.

On the red side of the screen, Antofagasta fell after broker Jefferies maintained a 'hold' rating on the stock, while British Gas owner Centrica slipped on news domestic customer numbers fell 1.5% in the first three months of the year as households switched to other providers.
