Shares of Avast paced gains on the second-tier index with investors cheering the cyber-security software maker's decision to maintain its final dividend.

Hyve Group and Cineworld were also higher, bouncing back from the previous day's sharp losses.

Going the other way, oilers were lower, despite reports that the US administration was studying plans to pay oil shale producers for keeping part of their reserves in the ground and transferring them to the country's strategic reserves.

Automotive-related shares such as those of Aston Martin and TI Fluid were also on the back foot, close on the heels of data released the day before that revealed historic declines in US auto sales and production.
