FTSE 250 movers: Big Yellow surges on rising profits, miners lower
Updated : 15:14
UK stocks edged higher on Tuesday, despite confirmation of the UK's first deflation since the 1960s. Sector-wise, losses made by miners and telecommunications were offset by strong results from real estate, construction and insurance stocks.
As of 2:30GMT, the FTSE 250 was trading 134 points higher at 18,156.
Top of the 250 leaderboard was Big Yellow, as the self storage company reported rising annual profits thanks to higher occupancy and prices.
DCC was another riser, following a €464m bid for oil giant Shell's Butagaz liquefied petroleum gas business in France. Analysts at Berenberg said the deal would significantly boost earnings.
Moneysupermarket.com was in the red as founder Simon Nixon cut his stake in the company to 12.8%.
Aveva dipped as its adjusted pre-tax profits sank 21% to £62.1m, as margins shrank to 29.8% from 33% a year ago. Shares in the company have been inflated recently due to intense bid speculation. The outlook appears tough, said analysts at RBC Capital Markets.
BTG was a major faller as its annual profits declined as acquisitions and foreign exchange movements offset revenue growth.
Miners were trading lower, including Acacia Mining, Kaz Minerals, Evraz and Petra Diamonds.
