London’s FTSE 250 was up 0.4% at 20,314.41 in afternoon trade on Monday.

Silver and gold miner Hochschild Mining was the star performer on the index as silver prices surged, targeted by Reddit retail traders, while iron ore miner Ferrexpo was also on the rise.

On the downside, shopping centre owners were under the cosh as investors mulled the impact of lockdown, with Hammerson, Capital & Counties and Shaftesbury all weaker.

Travel company TUI was also in the red amid further travel restrictions, after France closed its borders to most non-EU travel, and Portugal banned foreign travel.
