FTSE 250 movers: Indivior surges but Vesuvius hit by cautious outlook
London's FTSE 250 was up 0.7% to 19,896.62 in afternoon trade as investors waded through an avalanche of earnings.
Drug maker Indivior was the standout gainer after its second-quarter numbers beat estimates and the company lifted its full-year guidance, while Mitchells & Butlers fizzed higher after its third-quarter trading update.
Bodycote advanced as it posted an 18.8% surge in first-half revenue, while Renishaw pushed higher after reporting record revenue of £536.8m in its full-year results.
Bookmaker Ladbrokes was in the black as it said group revenue nudged higher in the first half as it announced that synergies from the Coral Group deal would be bigger than initially estimated.
Mitie was on the front foot after it said first quarter trading was in line with expectations and full year guidance remained unchanged.
Thomas Cook racked up solid gains as it reported a "good" third quarter performance, with group revenue up 14% on a like-for-like basis to £2.27bn.
On the downside, Vesuvius retreated as it posted a jump in revenue and earnings for the first half but sounded a cautious note on the outlook.
Intu Properties was trading lower after it maintained its first-half dividend and reported a flat net asset value and a fall in net rental income.
Just Eat was weaker after it bumped up its revenue guidance for this year and posted a 44% jump in revenue for the first half, but fell short of analysts' expectations on earnings.
Shares in Weir Group were unloved despite the pump maker reporting a rise in revenues on the back of a weaker pound.
Housebuilder and regeneration specialist Countryside Properties was in the doldrums despite posting strong growth in its third quarter, as its shares got caught up in renewed angst about the housing sector.
Cyber security company Sophos retreated despite reporting a rise in first-quarter revenue and billings amid strong demand following a spate of cyber attacks so far this year.
